What it's like
You’ll help protect information for our most important public and private companies. This might include healthcare, finance, education and telecoms.
A cloud services engineer is responsible for technological duties in cloud computing. This can include design, planning, management, maintenance and support of cloud systems and services.
Your tasks might include:
migrating business data from traditional data centres to cloud-based architecture
monitoring cloud services for potential security threats or technical issues
developing cloud applications that allow businesses to easily retrieve, analyse and manage their data

Hours
You'll likely work between 35 and 40 hours each week, from Monday to Friday. At times, you might need to work longer days or at irregular times to oversee projects.

Environment
Depending on the industry you work in, you’ll either be office-based, home-based or a mix of both.

There are many qualifications that could help you become a cloud services engineer.
Most cloud services engineers will have studied at HNC/HND or degree level in computer systems, cloud computing or similar.
You may also choose to do an apprenticeship in Engineering or System support. This means you’ll gain practical work experience while working towards a qualification.
Qualifications:
a degree in computer science, information technology or a related field is preferred
experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure or Google Cloud is necessary
certifications such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect or Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect are beneficial
Experience or qualifications which show knowledge of the industry will be helpful. For example, Skills For Work: Engineering or relevant Scottish Vocational Qualifications (SVQs).
You might be able to get volunteering experience in an engineering environment. This’ll help you build up the skills, knowledge and experience needed for a career in mechanical engineering.
